A Simple Yet Comprehensive Health Questionnaire Is Sure Fire, Low Cost Legal Protection in your Beauty Business

Medical history and health questionnaires, used for spa clients in a beauty or aesthetics business, are actually a valuable tool for many purposes… one is that it is a legal safeguard you receive from having gone through this process. While we don’t like to think about it, we do live in a litigious society, and there are many people out there who will sue at the drop of a hat. Even if a law suit is frivolous, or if you win it can still be expensive. At the very least there is time away from your business, but more than likely it will involve hiring an attorney, and they do not come cheap. $200 to $500 an hour for a good attorney to fight a case that could have been avoided.

Thinking of the medial history and health questionnaire as an insurance policy against annoying and expensive law suits may be your first reason for having the questionnaires filed out by all clients. The next good reason for using the questionnaires on a regular basis is the fact that they will help you to avoid unintentional harm that could be caused to a client. Some clients, as you will discover in researching the subject, may have conditions that make some treatments unsafe for them.

Diabetics is a good example – especially type one diabetics or advanced type two – should avoid many treatments that are great for others. Now imagine a scenario where a client who is aware of diabetes but is not taking it seriously, not eating right or taking medication, leaves this information off of a questionnaire and then has problems later and decides to sue you.

Your spa business will always have a signed questionnaire on file and these should be kept on file forever – and can be useful tools in a court of law. If the client fills it out accurately of course you can advise her in the areas of treatment that are not safe for people with the conditions that she has, thus preserving her health. Also if you have an idea of family medical history and should notice odd spots on the skin these can be brought to the client’s attention. If the client has a family history of skin cancer for instance, you may be the first warning sign that can save her life.

So while they may seem like a waste of time, especially on a busy day, a questionnaire and complete medical history that is signed by each patient should always be used.
