Spa Marketing in a Tough Economic Climate – Part 4

Business Cards Can Work Hard for Your Business When Designed Effectively – Use the Backside!

The design of your spa company's business card is one of the BEST things you do when going into business for yourself, or entering life as a a professional aesthetician.  If your card is looking kind of blah you might consider a makeover, especially now that you have experience in the field and more of an idea of what attracts and impresses clients.

Never Fail to Always Make a Positive First Impression

Your business card needs to be able to make a good impression, selling your spa or beauty business services on your behalf. It also needs to reaffirm positive impressions that clients and prospects have of you when presented in person.  Your business card is almost like a mini brochure about your business.  Some people look at their business card as a small version of their own resume.  That comparison can be valid.  While you don’t have as much room to work with as a full size brochure or job resume, the goal of the card is the same, to reinforce positive thoughts and provide the client or prospect with a physical reminder of you and with contact information.  For that reason the front of the card should be graphically appealing, easy to read, and quick to catch the eye.  Avoid the temptation to put too much information on the card.  If it is cluttered and hard to read, it won’t be read.  Instead strategically place white space on the card with your information in small chucks that are easy for readers to digest.

Photographs and Strong Graphics Can be a Powerful Addition to your Cards

Graphics are also a good idea.  Artwork compiled from the many clip art collections available can make your card stand out.  So can a photo of you. In fact, many people have great success with photo business cards; four color cards that are actually small photographs with the needed information on the front.  If you ask your printer about photo cards, or about the careful use of color and graphics, they will be glad to help you.

Using Both Sides is a Great Marketing Tool

Also remember that there is a back side to your card as well.  Most cards fail to make us of the space on the back and that is a tragic loss.  The back of the card can be printed on for a small additional cost, and on the back you can offer discounts for first visits or other specials. Turning the back side of your business card into a coupon is a great promotional tool.  People obviously love coupons.  Look at how many businesses, including professionals, offer promotional discounts or specials in their ads and especially how many have coupons in the back of the Yellow Pages section of the phone book.

Cheap but Potent!

Lastly, get your business card out in people’s hands.  It does you no good at all sitting in a box in your office.  They  don’t cost that much to print and may stay with a prospect for months before they make a decision to see you, almost like a small marketing time bomb.  Use your business card wisely and it will bring business to you.
